Destiny (Ngā Puhi) is a talented young singer, actor and performer who joined the whānau at Glass Ceiling Arts Collective, with her brother, when she was 14. Destiny had found it difficult to join a mainstream arts programme due to her disability, Cerebral Palsy, and her anxiety which can lead to seizures.

Destiny has performed multiple times with the South Auckland class including two musical theatre productions, this year playing Wednesday Addams in the Addams Family. She has sung and performed in our end of year festivals and has been a part of two short films made with her class. Glass Ceiling has not only provided this talented youngster opportunities to use her amazing singing voice and acting talent, but a place to belong and make friends with a whole bunch of young people, both Disabled and non-disabled, who share her passion for the performing arts.

Through her obvious talent, Destiny was selected to be a part of Glass Ceiling’s new multisensory theatre production, Ahi-After Mahuika, working with professional artists and performers to create a rich Māori storytelling experience for audience members with profound, learning disabilities, but also that can be enjoyed by everyone.

With the wonderful support of the Bobby Stafford-Bush Foundation, we could ensure that Destiny had the right support she needed in the rehearsal rooms and at development performances, to enable her to take this next exciting step in her performance career. We are excited to see what will happen next for Destiny, in this project.
